Job description

Working Foreman – Minor Civils | Thames Valley

Location: Covering local projects
Type: Permanent
Package: £50,000 + Company Car
Progression: Clear path to Works Manager

About the Role:
We’re working with a well-established Tier 2 specialist civils contractor delivering minor civils packages across the Thames Valley. Projects typically include enabling works, drainage, foundations, hard landscaping, and small infrastructure works.
They are now looking for an experienced Working Foreman to join the team permanently. The role involves leading a team of operatives on site, while also remaining hands-on when required.
This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys working on the tools but is also ready to step into a leadership role. You’ll work closely with the Site Agent and Contracts Manager, with a clear and realistic route to Works Manager.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Supervise daily site operations across civils packages (typically £50k–£500k)
  • Lead and manage a team of groundworkers and plant operators
  • Ensure health and safety standards are met (RAMS, site inductions, PPE)
  • Read and interpret drawings and assist with setting out
  • Liaise with engineers, subcontractors, and suppliers
  • Operate plant and machinery when required (subject to valid tickets)
Requirements:
  • Proven experience in groundworks and minor civils
  • Background as a Working Foreman, Ganger, or Lead Hand
  • Comfortable supervising but willing to be hands-on
  • Valid SSSTS or SMSTS, First Aid, and ideally CPCS or NPORS tickets
  • Full UK driving licence
What’s on Offer:
  • £50,000 basic salary
  • Company car or van
  • Fuel card, pension, and holiday allowance
  • Training and development with clear progression to Works Manager
