We are working with a highly regarded Principal Civil Contractor seeking to appoint a Managing Quantity Surveyor to their established, high performing commercial team. You’ll report into a long serving Senior Commercial Manager who has been with the business since graduation, offering both mentorship and stability within a trusted, people focused organisation.
You’ll play a key role in supporting the development and delivery of a range of civil engineering projects forming part of a long term framework. The role has a strong emphasis on pre-construction and early stage development, offering excellent exposure and variety.
Key Areas of Focus:
1. Lead and develop an existing ECI, helping to secure client agreement and progress into the construction phase
2. Oversee a live project valued at approximately £4M, ensuring commercial control and successful delivery
3. Provide strategic commercial input into the pursuit of the next framework period, commencing in 2027

What will you be doing on day to day basis?
- Pre-Construction Involvement: Contribute to feasibility assessments, early contractor involvement (ECI), and bid submissions. Provide commercial input into design development, estimating, and risk management.
- Team Leadership & Development: Mentor and support junior surveyors, promoting a culture of accuracy, accountability, and professional growth within the commercial team.
- Commercial Leadership: Lead the commercial function across multiple projects, managing a team of Quantity Surveyors and providing strategic guidance on all financial aspects
- Cost Management: Oversee budgeting, cost planning, and value engineering throughout project lifecycles. Ensure accurate cost forecasting, reporting, and control of expenditure against budgets.
- Procurement & Contract Management: Manage procurement strategies, tendering processes, and subcontractor appointments. Administer and negotiate contracts (NEC Option A, C and E), ensuring compliance and minimising risk.
- Change & Risk Management: Identify, evaluate, and manage variations, claims, and risks to protect project margins and contractual positions.
- Stakeholder & Client Liaison: Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, consultants, and internal project teams to support collaborative project delivery.
- Reporting & Governance: Produce accurate monthly commercial reports, forecasts, and cash flow analyses. Present commercial updates to senior management and stakeholders.
What do you need?
- Be a qualified (HNC / HND / Degree) and experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor or Managing Quantity Surveyor with civil engineering project experience, gained working for a Tier 1 or Tier 2 Principal Contractor
- Be able to demonstrate strong general commercial acumen, along with an interest in early-stage project development
- Have demonstrable experience of managing others
