Job description

This is a genuinely unique opportunity to lead across all engineering functions on what is THE flagship project in central Birmingham.

As Head of Engineering on this flagship terminus, you’ll be leading engineering excellence across a project that will redefine how people travel. This is a once in a career opportunity.

You will be responsible for several workstreams including Responsible Engineers, Technical Assurance, Systems integration, CDM/CSM, Survey Management, I&M, Temporary Works and Handover.

You will lead a team of 10, although this will grow to around 20 as the main works properly gets going. On which note, they are just concluding piling works and are aiming to start structural works in around 4 months.

This 1.5bn project blends architecture, civil, structural, MEICA systems, and rail specific engineering, so will offer you a varied and challenging workload for the next 7 years.

In this role, you'll be responsible for:
  • Establishing and managing all engineering processes and plans with assistance from respective function engineers
  • Working closely with the delivery teams (PMs, CMs etc) to ensure that there is good understanding of engineering requirements
  • Working closely with the PM, CDM and CSM teams, ensure all residual risks are managed and, if required, transferred accordingly
  • Maintaining close collaboration with the client and attend regular construction and Temp Works assurance meetings
  • Confirming overall acceptability of the constructed works deemed to have been built in accordance with approved design
  • Participating in audits – both internal and external
  • Managing all engineering interfaces with Network Rail and their ASPRO team
  • Where necessary, act as the CEM and approve all Work Package Plans and other engineering documents for submission to Network Rail

To be successful in this role, it is thought that you will:
  • Hold a degree or masters (BSc/BEng/MSc/MEng) in Civil or Structural Engineering and he a Chartered Member (CEng) or either the ICE or IStructE
  • Have extensive experience of working as a Chief Engineer, Technical Director or Engineering Manager on large capital projects. If you had Airport Terminal or Rail Station experience, then that would be preferable.
  • Have demonstrable and proven experience in leading and managing large multidisciplinary teams

On offer is a salary of around £110,000 - £120,000 per annum along with an attractive benefits package which includes a £9,000 car allowance, a 7% employer pension contribution, family private medical insurance and 27 days holiday.
