An excellent job opportunity for an experienced Technical Director (Major Projects) to work for a leading tier one international main contractor.

The role:

To oversee, coordinate and take accountability for the Technical Services related issues (planning, design, engineering, MEP, digital, facades, sustainability) corresponding to the Business Unit / Sector. In addition support with procurement strategy, bidding, design, planning, construction methodology, quality control and delivery of projects, both on site and during the pre-qualification and tender process, to ensure the business meets its objectives of delivering quality projects, on time and profitably to agreed project and business targets.
Reporting directly to the Managing Director / Business Unit Director and working alongside the other Senior Leaders in the Business Unit / Sector, identifying key risks to business performance and putting in-place appropriate risk management strategies. To ensure that projects are delivered consistently in line with agreed company procedures.

To have a reporting line also to the CTO (Chief Technical Officer), to attend Construction Technical Services meetings, as required with the functional subject matter leaders, to ensure consistency and compliance with company strategies.
To provide a direct link between functional leaders, and the Business Unit, from a communication and reporting perspective.

What will you be doing?
  • Ensure all pre-quals / and bids are produced in line with the company technical procedures. Work with the Business Unit/Sector Commercial and Construction Director to ensure qualitative approaches and documents are prepared to meet our KPI targets.
  • Provide ‘hands on’ coaching and leadership to Project Directors, Construction Managers and Technical Services Managers, to ensure compliance and approach in line with company objectives ensuring clear accountabilities and deliverables on each project.
  • In conjunction with the Managing Director and Procurement / Supply Chain team support in agreeing and implementing approved subcontractors / supplier list and continued measurement on their ongoing performance to the Group Business School for continual review. (No subcontractors are to be awarded work unless they are on the business Supply Chain, or approved by the Managing Director and Group Board Directors).
  • Deploy operational resource effectively and ensure continual development of our staff in career progression, managing poor performers and continually developing the talent pool.
  • Lead in-house reviews of best practice and champion the roll-out programme to the teams / projects. To keep abreast of the Group best practice and knowledge sharing.
  • Build a relationship with clients and consultants as a member of the Business Unit/Sector leadership team.
  • Ensure knowledge / best practice is shared across the business.
  • Ensure through the project teams and planning support that project programming and reporting is accurate and timely, and work with the Construction and Commercial Director to ensure our contractual position is protected at all times.
  • At project level overseeing our commitment to sustainability and environmental targets ensuring our site/project teams are promoting corporate standards and best practice.
  • Fully participating in the production of, and implementation therefore of the business plan for the business / sector.
  • Demonstrating the Leadership required to drive all relevant aspects of overall business strategy.
  • Particularly focussing on the Group’s innovation strategy, digital, assembly, operate, lean and continuous improvement.
  • Overseeing and delivering start-up Workshops for the delivery teams, covering technical subjects.
  • Carrying out technical adjudications of tenders in compliance with company procedures.
  • Ensuring all technical staff are trained to carry out their duties.
  • Contributing to the business improvement topics which would then form part of the construction technical services business plan.
  • Ensure appropriate preliminary resource on all projects measured against tendered allowances.
  • Ensure proper snags, defects, processes implemented and good customer care implementation working within the KPI targets as set by the business.
  • To assist the Construction and Commercial Directors with overseeing and coordinating pre-qual and tender bids for successful conversion.
  • Attend project mobilisation meetings with the Construction and Commercial Directors.
  • Audit projects regularly for technical compliance and ensure results are issued to the Managing Director, Construction and Commercial Directors, as well as to the Construction Technical Officer and functional leads. Clear management actions to be taken on all elements not reaching the required standard.
  • Ensure all Technical Managers working in the Business Unit receive regular communication and fully understand what career opportunities exist across the company. Ensure that every member of the team knows that they can realise their ambitions and ensure that proper career advice is given.
  • Assist with recruitment of technical staff.
