Job description

Help shape the future project pipeline of a specialist international civil construction business which has big growth plans.

We are seeking a Senior Tender Planner to lead across the tendering and work winning activity of an international civil construction business.  They hold several multi decade relationships that provide a secure future portfolio of projects across multiple sectors, including residential and public spaces, data centres, public infrastructure, defence, highways, rail, and utilities. Project values could be anywhere between 500k - 50M.

They operate as both subcontractor and principal contractor. They employ 240 people, and this year's revenue is anticipated to be around £180M.

As a Senior Tender Planner, you will work closely with the estimating and bid teams and be responsible for assessing tender documents and drawings, understanding what's required and devising a methodology, sequence, and programme, working from first principles.  It is anticipated that you will work on around three tenders a week, supporting both the UK and European divisions.

Your time would be split between offices in Kent and central London, along with opportunity for you to work from home. Their open plan head office in Kent has recently been refurbished and there are some great facilities on offer, including an in-house gym!

There is a clear progression path for you, along with opportunity for you to start building a tender planning team. Joining a smaller and value focused organisation means that your work will be seen, and your contribution recognised and rewarded.

Your key responsibilities will be:
  • To provide winning work programme strategies for tender submissions, ensuring all risk and opportunities are assessed
  • Work collaboratively with all team members
  • Build a Tender Planning Team, including selection, mentoring and development
  • Ensure an effective and professional planning and programming service is available for pre-contract and project teams, delivering consistency
  • Lead programme meetings be they internally or presenting to a client
  • Ensure that the programme content is functionally compliant with the planning procedures and guidance
  • Establish and agree construction outputs, key methods of construction, sequencing, installation and commissioning
  • Produce and document the planning deliverables including programmes, planning philosophy, presentations and reports

To be successful in this role, it is likely that you:
  • Hold a relevant degree qualification in engineering or construction, or hold extensive practical experience
  • Have a background in operational roles, for example as a Site Engineer or Site Agent, and have demonstrable experience of planning projects
  • Ideally have existing experience of tender planning
  • Have good working knowledge of planning and scheduling systems such as Primavera P6, Asta and MS Project.

The position offers a salary of between 80,000 - 85,000 per annum with a car allowance, private medical, enhanced contribution pension and an annual holiday entitlement of 24 days which increases with service.
