Job description
We are currently seeking an experienced Freelance Senior Quantity Surveyor to support the delivery of major rail and infrastructure projects across the UK. This is a long-term opportunity offering an Outside IR35 engagement alongside a flexible hybrid working model.
Our client is a well-established principal contractor operating across the rail and transportation sector, delivering complex, multi-disciplinary design and build projects nationwide. Their portfolio includes large-scale civil engineering works, signalling and rail systems installation, level crossing upgrades, infrastructure enhancements, and major resignalling programmes. They are known for delivering projects across mainline and metro environments, often working on high-profile schemes in partnership with Tier 1 contractors and key industry stakeholders.
Working as part of an experienced commercial team, you will play a key role in managing project finances, subcontractor relationships, and contractual processes across a range of live schemes.

Key Responsibilities
- Commercial management of rail and/or civil engineering projects from inception to final account
- Subcontract procurement, administration, and cost control
- Preparation and management of applications, valuations, and variations
- Risk and opportunity management across project lifecycle
- Close collaboration with project delivery teams and stakeholders
- Proven experience as a Senior Quantity Surveyor within rail and/or civil engineering environments (essential)
- Strong understanding of NEC contracts (preferred)
- Demonstrable experience working on complex infrastructure projects
- Ability to operate independently in a freelance capacity
