Role: Quantity Surveyor/Estimator

Location: London
We are currently in the process of hiring a Quantity Surveyor to work alongside senior members of the team assisting with all Commercial aspects of projects from Tendering to Final Accounts. Projects can vary in size and complexity anywhere between £100K - £5M.
The role includes tendering and estimating new enquiries as well as surveying, monitoring project progress, and controlling costs and expenditure on live projects; in order to maximise income and cash flow whilst maintaining good working relationships with Clients and Suppliers.
As a Quantity Surveyor, your principal roles and responsibilities will include:
Tendering:
  • Identifying and assessing the Scope of Work. Formulating and issuing detailed enquiries which can include Take Offs undertaken in a timely manner to meet deadlines
  • Researching the costs of materials, equipment and labour.
  • Calculating overheads and desired profit.
  • Collecting quotes from sub-contractors and suppliers and checking their accuracy.
  • Assessing risks on a project and allowing for these in the estimate.
  • Using software to analyse company data, inflation, exchange rates and prices.
  • Taking into account projected timescales and unforeseen events that may occur.
  • Preparing and submitting quotations for work.
  • Monitoring costs on projects as they proceed.
 
Quantity Surveying:
  • Manage commercial and contractual arrangements associated with a project and works.
  • Monitor and assess project progress on a monthly basis.
  • Initiate invoicing of customers for work completed in line with commercial and contractual arrangements in place.
  • Price, negotiate and agree on costs and budgets for projects and project variances.
  • Resolve commercial and contractual disputes with the customer.
  • Manage and maximie cash flow to meet company standards and budgets.
  • Produce financial and management reports that monitor project progress.
  • Responsible for subcontractor enquiries, selection and order in line with individual project requirements.
  • Ensure business needs are met concerning profit margin and risk identification.
  • Comply with Company policies, procedures and instructions at all times.
  • Implement new ideas and methods and continue to see ways of both improving contribution to the division’s goals and enhancing the reputation of the company.
  • Implement and promote equality and diversity policy.
  • Ensure that the Rainsford anti-bribery policy is strictly adhered to.
  • Any other duties required to enable the division to respond effectively to the requirements of the Company.
 
Essential criteria:
  • Must have 3+ years of Quantity Surveying Experience.
  • Experience working for a principal contractor.
  • Strong experience and knowledge of JCT Contracts
  • Effective analytical thinking skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail.
  • Good understanding of all Microsoft Office suites, High Level of Excel experience preferred
