Job description

Do you want to contribute to a carbon neutral future?

A carbon capture developer is seeking to appoint a Project Manager to support with the development, construction, testing and commissioning of a unique site in North Africa. The project is in the final stages of detailed design, and a preferred construction partner has been identified.

This position is offered on an interim basis for a period of 10 – 12 months at a rate of 450 – 500 per day. The indicative IR35 determination is outside.

You will report to the Director of Engineering and be responsible for the management of all delivery activities end to end. You will work with in-house engineering and science departments, as well as external engineering consultants and the construction partner.

This position will be offered on a hybrid basis, with home and office-based working required. It is anticipated the split to be weighted towards the office. There will also be requirements for you to travel to North Africa at least once a month.

This role offers you the opportunity to tackle the climate change emergency on a one-of-a-kind project.

Responsibilities include:
  • Initiate and lead the governance and delivery, using an appropriate project management methodology to give assurance that intended outcomes are identified and achieved
  • Develop and manage the delivery plan to evaluate and track business benefits and to identify actions needed to maximise these
  • Clarify roles and responsibilities across the project team and ensure project compliance with the organisation's wider decision-making structures and processes
  • Manage the administration of the construction contract via the external consultants from initial contract negotiation stages to handover, delivering the entire scope against the project budget
  • Establish and manage the project review and reporting processes, providing the leadership team with accurate and relevant information and key recommendations at agreed review points to enable them to evaluate progress and agree on change
  • Hold the internal team to account to fulfil their side of the contract, ensuring the site progress is not hindered
  • Drive efficient and sustainable delivery solutions to reduce embedded and operational carbon whilst meeting health & safety standards

To be successful in this position, it is anticipated that you will:
  • Hold a degree in Engineering or similar relevant discipline and be qualified with a relevant professional institution
  • Have 10+ years’ experience in the delivery of projects, ideally in the Water and Wastewater Treatment, Industrial and Process Control industries
  • Experience in testing and systems commissioning
  • Working knowledge of construction contracts, especially FIDIC Red Book
  • It would be a dream if you were fluent in French, although we’re realists so this is NOT essential to you securing this position.
