We are recruiting a Project Director to a Tier 2 Principal Contractor.
Full P&L accountability. No bureaucracy. No politics. Full autonomy.
This Civil Contractor has an extremely solid, multi-decade and highly profitable trading history. Operating and pretty much owning their niche within the civil engineering sector they are the ‘go to’ Contractor and, as such, have a secure pipeline through to the mid-2030s. They work across the UK and Ireland, and they also have presence in certain international markets.
Typically, you’ll lead the delivery of medium sized D&B projects (sub £100M) from ECI phase, when required, through to conclusion. You’ll be supporting a variety of private and public sector clients working under the NEC4, either Option A or C. In the main, you will utilise in-house resources across plant, labour, and concrete and asphalt production.

- Oversee the overall management and performance of the project including planning, design, construction, cost, controls and monitoring, and ensure the project is delivered to time, budget and specification.
- Build a collaborative and high performance team
- Provide the leadership and strategic direction to the project in line with ethos, methods of working and best practice
- Support and promote a collaborative approach to team work
- Create and promote a clear vision, leadership and direction for the project
To be successful in this role, it is thought that you will:
- Be educated to a minimum of degree (BSc or BEng) level in Civil Engineering
- Have demonstrable experience of working as a Project Manager within the civil engineering construction industry gained with a reputable Tier 1 or Tier 2 Main Contractor
- Have good understanding and experience in the NEC Contract form
- Have good commercial awareness with effective influencing and negotiating skills
- Have highly developed communication skills, including writing and presentation of reports, preparing business management documents, and presenting information in meetings with clients and Board members
- Be committed, reliable and flexible in terms of UK travel and staying away
