Job description

How often do you get to build a new runway? Maybe once in a career, if you're lucky. This is that moment.

Our client is entering a once in a generation transformation, and we're looking for a Head of Delivery to lead one of the country's most significant infrastructure programmes: a dual runway and surface access programme expected to exceed £2bn, with individual projects worth more than £200m and annual spend peaking above £400m.

Why this role is special?
  • You'll Get in early. The programme is at concept design stage, so you won't inherit someone else's plan. You'll write the delivery strategy, set the standards and shape how it's built from day one.
  • You'll deliver something that lasts. Airfield, civils, surface access, enabling works: this is a legacy project that will serve millions of passengers for decades.
  • You'll have real influence. As the senior delivery advisor to the programme leadership team, you'll help steer major investment decisions and deputise for the Programme Director.
  • You'll build your own team. You'll lead, coach and grow a high performing client side delivery team of up to 30 direct staff, backed by top tier integrated technical partners and contractors.
  • You'll push the industry forward. From low carbon concrete and asphalt to a smart earthworks re-use strategy, this programme wants fresh thinking on sustainability and mega project best practice.
  • You'll never be bored. Delivering major construction inside a live, operational airport is as complex and rewarding as it gets.

To be successful, it is anticipated that you will meet the below criteria:
  • Degree or postgraduate qualification in civil engineering, or related discipline
  • Significant experience as a Programme Manager or Programme Director on large, multi-year civil infrastructure programmes (£500m+)
  • Experience leading large multi-disciplinary client-side teams and managing complex supply chains
  • Strong commercial and financial acumen, with in-depth knowledge of NEC contracts, contract administration and negotiation
  • Confident operating at executive level, with excellent leadership, influencing and communication skills
  • A strong commitment to health, safety and environmental excellence
  • Resilience and the ability to lead through ambiguity, change and competing stakeholder demands

In return you will receive a competitive basic salary offer along with an incredibly strong benefits package including a sign on bonus, an annual bonus of up to 40%, a cash benefits allowance of £12,000 per annum along with pension, private medical, 30 days holiday etc
