First impressions count

“I typically review more than 200 CVs per day, and the best candidate for a job may be overlooked due to simple mistakes. However, by following these guidelines, your CV will stand out and be given proper consideration.” - Jacob.

Your CV should be viewed as a personal pitch for your desired job, answering all the pertinent questions about your qualifications. The degree to which your CV does this effectively will significantly impact your chances of being invited for an interview. Be sure to provide concise answers.

If uncertain about your CV, do not upload it to a job board; instead, speak to one of our specialist consultants here at People Group. This is what we do and would be happy to help you enhance your resume.

Your CV must contain your name, number, and email address so that you can be contacted easily.

A personal summary should be the first section, briefly summarising your experience, desired role, and skillset, which will provide a clear indication of what you can offer. You don't need to use an entire page to list your skills, but a couple of concise sentences that explain your main abilities will do.

When detailing your work experience, start with your most recent job and ensure there are no gaps in your employment history. Include what you did during any periods of unemployment so that we have a complete understanding of your career journey. This doesn’t need to be in great detail, bullet points are ideal. Highlight your most significant accomplishments in previous roles and how you made an impact. Being honest about setbacks and demonstrating how you learned from mistakes and became more resilient is crucial, as this is what employers are interested in hearing. By following these guidelines, you can increase your chances of getting more interviews and landing your dream job. We will have a better understanding of the type of employee you are and why you stand out from other candidates.
